1st Ave. Water & Sewer Extensions

The Town of Biggar is pleased to announce that the contract for the 1st Ave. Water & Sewer infrastructure extensions has been awarded. Here are the details:

• Scope of Work: The project starts at the west side of Quebec Street to Highway #4 and includes water and sewer main extensions, as well as new service connections. Additionally, adjacent ditch regrading will improve drainage along the north side of 1st Ave.

• Impacts to Residents: During construction, some areas adjacent to the road will be affected. The curb lane will be closed, and street parking will be unavailable. However, two-way traffic is planned to be maintained, and access to the Hospital will remain open throughout the project.

• Schedule: The construction is scheduled to take place from June 19 to July 15, 2024.

• Approximate Cost: The estimated cost of construction is $450,000.


2nd Ave. Water & Sewer Extensions

The first three blocks of 2nd Avenue West from Main Street to Quebec Street will be undergoing water and sewer main service lines replacement commencing on or about August 5th, 2024, and ending on or about October 31st, 2024.

Please be aware that the street will be significantly excavated to replace the water and sewer mains. Also, various degrees of damage may occur when portions of the sidewalk, retaining walls, driveways and landscaping are removed by the contractor to replace the service lines and valves up to your property line. There will be NO FRONT STREET ACCESS for an extended period during the construction process.

Street reconstruction including replacement paving and sidewalks will happen over the next couple of years. Town staff and the construction crew will assist the public with the relocation of the garbage/recycling/organic bins on collection days.
